Welcome new staff Kelsey, Cooper, and Sonia!

October 4, 2018 | Written by Dylan Rosenthal

We are excited to announce three new additions to our staff: Kelsey Veldhuizen, Cooper Good, and Sonia Montalvo! See their roles and get to know them below.

KELSEY VELDHUIZENKelsey Veldhuizen staff
Volunteer Coordinator

Kelsey began serving as a volunteer tutor at Abundant Life during her time as a Trinity Fellow in 2017-18. She joined staff in the summer of 2018 as the Volunteer Coordinator, serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA placed with us by Virginia Mentoring Partnership. Kelsey graduated from Malone University with her B.A. in Biology, but decided to pursue her passion for community development instead of working in a science lab. She enjoys reading, running, and any outdoor activity (especially if it’s competitive).

COOPER GOOD
Middle School Tutoring CoordinatorCooper Good staff

Cooper is a graduate of The Ohio State University and a 2018-19 Trinity Fellow. While at Ohio State, Cooper discovered a passion for facilitating growth opportunities for youth by incorporating creative learning strategies in his teaching, mentoring, and coaching. At the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus, he developed and directed programs for an interactive video platform that educates students around the country. He also partnered with a community center to tutor and mentor Somali refugees in the Columbus area. Cooper served at Summer’s Best Two Weeks, an outdoor adventure camp, encouraging kids in character and spiritual development, personal growth, and physical fitness. Through these experiences, he built a diverse background that goes beyond the classroom. Cooper ultimately aspires to apply these experiential education skills to build effective relationships with his own students both in the classroom and on the field.

SONIA MONTALVOSonia Montalvo staff
Young Ladies’ Program Coordinator

Sonia joined the Abundant Life team in September 2018. She is a Charlottesville native and a proud resident of the community. Sonia is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a B.A in Communications Studies. Working in Youth Development for close to five years, Sonia considers it her life’s work to mentor young ladies and assist them in pursuing their dreams. In her spare time, Sonia facilitates creative writing workshops and spends time with loved ones.

Be sure to check out our new Team page to see all of our lovely faces!
