Abundant Life invites you to a special evening of events in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 20, 2020. The 18th Annual Fifeville Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration’s theme is Living in Victory and features free family-friendly activities.
We will kick off the celebration with a candlelight march for unity through the Prospect Avenue neighborhood, starting outside of the Buford Middle School auditorium at 5:00pm. Participants will be encouraged to sing spirituals and hymns while marching through the neighborhood before returning to the Buford auditorium for the 6:00pm evening ceremony. The ceremony will feature music by The Beloved Community Band, creative arts by local West African dance troupe Chihamba and the Anointed Praise Dance Ministry, community awards presentation, and an inspirational keynote address by Dr. Bruce Beard, Pastor of Transformation Ministries International of Atlanta. The celebration will culminate with a fellowship dinner in the Buford Middle School cafeteria at 7:15pm.
Abundant Life began marking Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a celebration in 2003 as a way to educate local youth about the civil rights leader, involve residents in community service, and build community. Look back at last year’s celebration here.
